I may not have made clear in my first article just how different the world of politics and the world of government really are.

Since we are at the beginning of the media silly season of August, in the middle of an election year, I’m opening with politics as this week’s topic.

The longest open conflicts involving the United States were the 19th century Indian wars during the westward expansion of the country. I recognize that these wars offend modern sensibilities, but my argument here is about length, not justification.
